"ESG Regulations and their impacts on the Industry and the Financial sector"

The BCBL and its member, EY Luxembourg, joined their efforts to inform companies both from Luxembourg and Belgium about the impact of ESG regulations on the Industry and the Financial sector.

We had the chance to listen to a feminine panel of experts from the industry and public institutions from Luxembourg to address this burning issue to which all entrepreneurs will have to face shortly and integrate to their whole organisation.

Panelists discussed the role of the financial sector in shifting investments towards more sustainable options while highlighting that ESG is now part of corporate strategy and is no longer seen as just a regulatory component. Many companies are setting up ESG departments and recognise the opportunities to adapt their services.

However, the administrative burden of reporting is a point of attention to remind the co-legislators. Some stressed the importance of taking into account the reality on the ground of companies in collecting evidence of their ESG commitments. The EU initiatives contribute to a common standardisation, which is necessary for the predictability of companies. In order to guarantee progress towards ESG, the Chamber of Commerce explained its role in accompanying companies on the path to sustainability, such as the business dialogue and the upcoming creation of the House of Sustainability.
